Here at ResorED Nutrition Counseling, we believe in a weight-inclusive approach to health. This practice draws from the principles of HAES and intuitive eating practices.
What is HAES Health at Every Size?
Health at Every Size (HAES) is a movement that supports focusing on health behaviors for people of all sizes without using weight as a benchmark of success. A weight-neutral HAES approach has been shown to support improvements in physiological measures (blood pressure, lab values), health behaviors (food and movement choices), and psychosocial outcomes (self-esteem & body image). Weight loss may or may not be a side effect.
While traditional weight-based approaches to health can result in weight loss in the short term, these approaches are unable to reliably maintain weight loss or health improvements over the long term. Making weight loss the primary focus of care contributes to weight cycling (“yo-yo dieting”), increased food and body preoccupation, reduced self-esteem, and eating disorders.
